MTG has today completed the acquisition of the shares in Turtle Entertainment, the world’s largest esports company that operates the well-known ESL brand. MTG has with this completed all of the three digital acquisitions announced in July this year, and will now focus on enabling them to expand even faster by leveraging the benefits from being part of an international digital entertainment group. MTG spent 78 million euros ($86.4 million) for a majority stake -- 74 percent -- in ESL's holding company, Turtle Entertainment GmbH. This deal marks the first acquisition of an eSports company by ESL today announced that it has reached an agreement with the international entertainment group, MTG, to acquire a majority stake in Turtle Entertainment GmbH, the holding company for ESL and its international subsidiaries. ESL, the world’s largest esports company and global esports leader, has innovated the industry in terms of broadcast values, production and event experience for the past 15 years across products such as the Intel Extreme Masters and ESL One, pioneering stadium events in Over the past few years, MTG has acquired ESL and DreamHack to become an esports leader. MTG also recently invested in Zoomin.TV, Europe’s largest multi-channel network, and in Splay Networks, the number one multi-channel network in Scandinavia, both of which have large gaming communities and channels. Modern Times Group (MTG), the parent company of ESL and DreamHack, has entered a binding term sheet with Chinese live streaming platform HUYA. One source also confirmed that it means that controversial ESEA owner, Eric Thunberg, who has presided over and fueled some of the biggest controversies in the company’s history, will be leaving.
